Integration

Many companies have a Quality System, usually approved to ISO 9001 and also an Environmental System either fully established or in the process of development in line with ISO 14001.

For historical reasons they have often been developed by different people in different functions. As a consequence there can be a lot of overlap and some conflicts.

ISO 14001 was updated in 2004. The earlier version is now obsolete, causing the need for registered organisations to review their systems and make any necessary changes in time for their next assessment. While these changes are being made the question often arises as to whether two separate systems
 - one for quality and one for environmental - are any longer necessary.

The two ISO standards have, quite intentionally, come much closer together in terms of requirements, terminology and approach, making an integrated system easier to understand and allowing considerable economies of scale. Most importantly, one system with one set of rules will be easier to understand for all employees.

If integration makes sense in your organisation, maybe we can help.
